May,5′th East Chester…………The Chester Volunteer Fire Department were called out at just after 7:00 P.M.in the evening after a boating accident on Spectacle Lake in East Chester. Chester Fire Department’s Fire and Rescue boat is a larger Boston Whaler more suited to working on the ocean and there is no place at Spectalcle Lake to launch it properly. Because of that, Fire Departments from Blandford and Mahone Bay were also called in under the Mutual Aid agreement to provide water craft for the operation.
chesterns.ca can report that one of the victims made it safely to shore and that police and firefighters were still searching the lake and shoreline for at least one other person. An anonymous source said that the event involved two people fishing from a canoe. As of 9:00 P.M. the search was ongoing.Several RCMP officers and at least two ambulances were at the scene along with numerous firefighters from the responding departments. There was some talk of bringing in ground search and rescue teams as well.
Our wishes for a safe and happy outcome go out to the families and friends of the victims and also to all the emergency responders whose job it is to help and protect us when such incidents occur.
